Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to recognize and identify each letter of the alphabet.
Materials and Prep
- Alphabet flashcards or printed alphabet letters
- Blank paper and crayons/markers
Activities
- Introduction: Start by showing the alphabet flashcards or printed letters to the student. Ask them if they know what these are and if they can name any letters.
- Letter Hunt: Spread out the flashcards or printed letters on a table or the floor. Ask the student to find a specific letter and bring it to you. Repeat this activity for several letters.
- Letter Tracing: Give the student a blank piece of paper and a crayon or marker. Show them a letter and ask them to trace it on the paper. Encourage them to say the letter aloud as they trace it.
- Alphabet Song: Teach the student the alphabet song and sing it together. Use the flashcards or printed letters as visual aids while singing.
- Letter Sorting: Write a few letters on separate pieces of paper and mix them up. Ask the student to sort the letters into groups based on their characteristics (e.g., straight lines vs. curved lines).
- Letter Scavenger Hunt: Hide the flashcards or printed letters around the room. Give the student clues (e.g., "Look under something that rhymes with 'bed'") to help them find each letter.
