Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to identify and match different plants and animals using Montessori 3 part cards.
Materials and Prep
- Montessori 3 part cards set with pictures of plants and animals
- A large mat or table space to work on
Before starting the lesson, make sure you are familiar with the names and pictures of the plants and animals included in the 3 part cards set.
Activities
- Introduction to 3 part cards: Show the student how the 3 part cards work. Explain that each card has a picture of a plant or animal and its name. Demonstrate how to match the picture card with the corresponding name card.
- Sorting activity: Spread out all the picture cards on the mat or table. Ask the student to pick one picture card and find its matching name card from the set. Encourage them to say the name of the plant or animal out loud.
- Memory game: Shuffle the picture cards and place them face down on the mat. Take turns flipping two cards at a time, trying to find a match between the picture and name cards. If a match is found, keep the pair. If not, turn them face down again and let the other person take a turn.
- Independent practice: Allow the student to work independently with the 3 part cards, matching the pictures and names. Offer support and guidance as needed.
Preschool Grade Talking Points
- "Plants and animals are living things that we can find in nature."
- "Plants need sunlight, water, and soil to grow, while animals need food, water, and shelter to survive."
- "Some examples of plants are trees, flowers, and grass. Can you think of any other plants you have seen?"
- "Animals can be big or small, and they can live on land, in water, or in the air. Can you name some animals you know?"
- "By matching the pictures and names of plants and animals, we can learn more about them and how they are different."
