Objective
By the end of this lesson, the first-grade student will be able to spell words related to the In the Night Garden theme.
Materials and Prep
- Paper
- Pencil
- In the Night Garden picture cards (you can print or draw them)
Activities
-
Introduce the In the Night Garden picture cards to the student. Show each card and name the character or object depicted.
Example: "This is Igglepiggle. Can you say 'Igglepiggle'?"
-
Choose one of the picture cards and ask the student to spell the word. Provide guidance and support as needed.
Example: "Let's spell 'Igglepiggle' together. What letter do you hear at the beginning of the word?"
-
Repeat step 2 with different picture cards, encouraging the student to spell the words independently.
-
Play a spelling game where the student creates their own In the Night Garden word using the picture cards. They can rearrange the cards to form a new word and then spell it out loud.
Example: "Can you make a word using the 'Upsy Daisy' and 'Makka Pakka' cards? Spell the word you created."
