Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to recognize and identify the letters of the alphabet and their corresponding sounds.
Materials and Prep
- Alphabet flashcards
- Whiteboard or large paper
- Markers or crayons
No prior knowledge is required for this lesson.
Activities
- Introduce the alphabet: Show the alphabet flashcards one by one, saying the letter and its sound. Encourage the student to repeat after you.
- Letter hunt: Write a few letters randomly on the whiteboard or paper. Ask the student to find the corresponding flashcard and place it next to the written letter.
- Letter matching: Shuffle the flashcards and place them face down. Ask the student to pick two cards at a time and check if they match. If they do, the student keeps the pair; if not, they are placed back face down. The goal is to find all the matching pairs.
- Letter sound association: Choose a few flashcards and ask the student to name objects or words that start with the corresponding letter sound. For example, if you show the letter "B," the student can say "ball" or "banana."
- Letter writing: Provide a large letter on the whiteboard or paper and demonstrate how to trace it with a marker or crayon. Encourage the student to practice tracing the letter multiple times.
