Materials and Prep

  • Headphones (optional)
  • Paper and pencils for taking notes

No prior knowledge is required for this lesson.

Activities

  1. Start by discussing what penguins are and where they live. Show pictures of penguins and ask the student to describe what they see.
  2. Introduce the concept of virtual tours and explain that we will be taking a virtual tour of penguin habitats in Antarctica using technology.
  3. Guide the student to a reliable website or educational platform that offers virtual tours of penguin habitats in Antarctica.
  4. Show the student how to navigate the virtual tour, including how to move around, zoom in and out, and interact with different elements.
  5. Encourage the student to explore different areas of the virtual tour and observe the penguins in their natural habitats. Ask them to take notes on what they see and any interesting behaviors they observe.
  6. After the virtual tour, engage in a discussion with the student about their observations. Ask questions like: What did you find most interesting about the penguins? How do you think penguins survive in such a cold environment? Why do you think penguins gather in large groups?
  7. Wrap up the lesson by summarizing the key points learned during the virtual tour and encourage the student to further explore penguins and their habitats if they are interested.
