Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to identify and match mushroom colors while practicing basic arithmetic skills.
Materials and Prep
- A set of colored mushroom cutouts (red, blue, yellow, green)
- A large piece of paper or cardboard
- Scissors
- Glue or tape
Activities
- Introduction: Show the student the colored mushroom cutouts and explain that they will be using these to practice arithmetic while learning about mushroom colors.
- Color Matching: Spread the mushroom cutouts on a table and have the student match each mushroom to its corresponding color on the large paper or cardboard.
- Addition and Subtraction: Ask the student to choose two mushroom colors and count how many mushrooms are in each color. Then, ask them to add or subtract the quantities to find the total number of mushrooms.
- Pattern Creation: Have the student create a pattern using the colored mushroom cutouts. For example, they can create a pattern like red-blue-green-red-blue-green.
- Counting and Sorting: Ask the student to count the total number of mushrooms and sort them by color into different piles.
Preschool Grade Talking Points
- "Mushrooms come in different colors, just like our clothes and toys!"
- "Let's match the mushrooms to their colors. Can you find the red mushroom? Great job!"
- "Now, let's count how many mushrooms are in each color. How many blue mushrooms do you see? Let's count together."
- "What happens if we add the red mushrooms and the yellow mushrooms together? Let's count and find out!"
- "Patterns are fun! Can you create a pattern using the mushroom colors? Red, blue, green, red, blue, green."
- "Wow, you have a lot of mushrooms! Let's count them all and sort them by color."
