Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to write a descriptive paragraph about a drawing.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper
  • Pencil or pen
  • Colored pencils or markers
  • A drawing of your choice

Before starting the lesson, make sure you have a clear understanding of what a descriptive paragraph is.

Activities

  1. Choose a drawing that you find interesting. It can be a picture from a book, a printout from the internet, or even your own artwork.

    Take a few minutes to carefully observe the drawing. Pay attention to the details, colors, and shapes.

  2. Using your pencil or pen, write down words or short phrases that describe what you see in the drawing. Think about the objects, people, animals, and any other elements that are present.

  3. Now, organize your words and phrases into a logical order. Start with an introduction sentence that briefly describes the overall scene in the drawing.

    Then, write a few sentences for each important detail you observed. Use descriptive words to make your writing more interesting.

    Finally, end your paragraph with a concluding sentence that summarizes the main idea of your description.

  4. Once you have finished writing your descriptive paragraph, read it aloud to yourself. Make sure it makes sense and flows smoothly.

    If you find any areas that need improvement, revise your paragraph accordingly.

  5. When you are satisfied with your final draft, use the colored pencils or markers to add color to your drawing. Enhance the details and bring your artwork to life!
