Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to identify and recognize letter sounds.
Materials and Prep
- Alphabet flashcards
- Whiteboard or paper
- Dry erase marker or pencil
Activities
-
Warm-up: Sing the alphabet song together. Encourage the student to join in and point to each letter as they sing.
-
Introduce the flashcards: Show the student the alphabet flashcards one by one. Say the name of each letter and ask the student to repeat after you.
-
Letter sounds practice: Shuffle the flashcards and place them face down. Take turns with the student flipping over a card and saying the sound that letter makes. If the student is unsure, provide the correct sound and encourage them to repeat it.
-
Letter sound hunt: Write a few letters on the whiteboard or paper. Ask the student to find objects around the house that start with those letters. Encourage them to say the letter sound as they identify the objects.
-
Review and assessment: Show the flashcards again and ask the student to say the letter sound for each letter. Provide positive reinforcement and praise for their efforts.
