Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to practice basic arithmetic skills through fun Power Rangers-themed activities.
Materials and Prep
- Paper
- Pencil or pen
No prior knowledge or preparation is needed for this lesson.
Activities
-
Power Rangers Addition
Write down a series of addition problems on the paper, such as 2 + 3, 4 + 1, 5 + 2, etc. Solve each problem and circle the correct answer. Challenge yourself to solve them quickly, just like Power Rangers in action!
-
Power Rangers Subtraction
Write down a series of subtraction problems on the paper, such as 7 - 2, 9 - 3, 6 - 1, etc. Solve each problem and circle the correct answer. Try to solve them as fast as you can, just like Power Rangers defeating their enemies!
-
Power Rangers Number Patterns
Create a number pattern using addition or subtraction, such as starting with 10 and adding 3 repeatedly (10, 13, 16, 19, etc.) or starting with 15 and subtracting 2 repeatedly (15, 13, 11, 9, etc.). Write down the pattern and continue it for at least 5 more numbers. Can you spot the pattern and predict the next numbers?
First Grade Talking Points
- "In math, we can add numbers together to find the total. For example, if we have 2 apples and we get 3 more, how many apples do we have in total?"
- "Subtraction helps us find the difference between two numbers. If we have 7 cookies and we eat 2, how many cookies will be left?"
- "Number patterns are sequences of numbers that follow a rule. Can you find the rule in the pattern we created? What comes next?"
