Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to identify colors and engage in physical activities related to colors.
Materials and Prep
- Color flashcards or pictures of different colors
- Open space for physical activities
- Comfortable clothing and shoes
Activities
-
Color Hunt: Hide color flashcards or pictures of different colors around the room or outdoor area. Encourage the student to find the colors and name them out loud. Once a color is found, have the student perform a physical activity associated with that color. For example, if they find a red flashcard, they can do five jumping jacks.
-
Color Relay: Divide the available space into two halves. Assign each half a color, such as blue and yellow. Place color flashcards or pictures at the opposite ends of the halves. The student will start at their assigned color and run to the other end to collect a flashcard/picture of the opposite color. They will then run back to their original spot and hand over the flashcard/picture to the next person. Repeat the relay race a few times, encouraging the student to move quickly and safely.
-
Color Movement: Assign a movement or action to each color, such as red for jumping, yellow for hopping, blue for skipping, and green for stretching. Show the student different color flashcards or pictures and have them perform the corresponding movement or action. You can create a sequence of colors to follow or mix them up for added challenge.
