Let's Bake Some Grammar Fun!

Hi Super Student! Today, we're going on a delicious adventure into the world of grammar, using one of our favorite things: Christmas cookies! We'll learn about two special types of words: Nouns and Verbs.

What are Nouns?

Nouns are like the ingredients and tools for our cookies – they are words that name a person, place, or thing. Think about baking Christmas cookies. What things do we use or see?

  • cookie (thing)
  • frosting (thing)
  • sprinkles (thing)
  • baker (person)
  • kitchen (place)
  • oven (thing)

These are all nouns! They name something.

What are Verbs?

Verbs are the actions! They are what we DO when we make cookies. Verbs are action words.

  • bake
  • mix
  • roll
  • cut
  • decorate
  • eat

These words show actions. We can DO these things!

Activity 1: Noun or Verb Sort!

Let's look at some cookie words. Is it a Noun (thing) or a Verb (action)? (You can use word cards or just read them aloud).

Words: star, pour, dough, shape, taste, gingerbread man, spread, sprinkle, oven, cool

Let's sort them together! (Guide the student to categorize each word).

Activity 2: Cookie Sentences

Now, let's write some super sentences about Christmas cookies. Try to use at least one noun and one verb from our lists in each sentence. Underline the Noun and circle the Verb.

  1. Example: The baker mixes the dough.
  2. Your turn! Write a sentence about decorating a cookie.
  3. Write a sentence about eating a cookie.
  4. Write a sentence about the oven.

Activity 3: Draw and Label!

Draw a picture of you making or decorating Christmas cookies. Label at least two nouns (things) in your picture and write down two verbs (actions) that are happening in your picture.

Wrap Up!

Great job today, Grammar Baker! You learned that Nouns name things (like cookie) and Verbs show actions (like decorate). Now you know how to spot them when we talk about yummy Christmas treats!
