Objective

By the end of this lesson, the toddler will be able to identify and name different birds, understand basic bird behaviors, and engage in a bird-related reading activity.

Materials and Prep

Materials: Bird picture book, paper, crayons, and a bird feeder (optional)

Prep: Familiarize yourself with the pictures and names of common birds in your area.

Activities

1. Bird Watching: Go outside and look for birds. Point out different birds and try to name them.

2. Bird Drawing: After bird watching, have the toddler draw or color the birds they saw in the picture book or on the paper.

3. Reading Time: Read a bird-related story or book together. Point out and discuss the birds mentioned in the story.

  • "Look, there's a bird! Can you say the name of the bird?"
  • "Let's draw the bird we saw. What color is it?"
  • "This book is about a bird. What do you think the bird is doing in the picture?"
