Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to enhance their reading skills while exploring their interests in cute things, cooking, drawing, and dancing.
Materials and Prep
- No additional materials needed
- Student should have a book or reading material of their choice
Activities
-
1. Cute Things Charades: Have the student choose a cute object or animal from their reading material and act out its characteristics without speaking. The parent or teacher can guess what it is.
-
2. Recipe Reading: Ask the student to find a recipe in their reading material or online that interests them. Let them read the recipe out loud and discuss any unfamiliar words or ingredients.
-
3. Draw and Describe: Encourage the student to choose a cute object or animal from their reading material and draw it. Then, have them write a short description of what they drew, using descriptive language.
-
4. Dance Book: If the student enjoys dancing, have them read a book or story about dance. After reading, ask them to create a dance routine inspired by the story and perform it for you.
Talking Points
-
When playing Cute Things Charades, say: "Can you show me how a cute bunny would move? Remember, you can't use any words!"
-
When discussing the recipe, say: "Let's read the recipe together. Do you know what 'whisk' means? It's when you mix ingredients quickly with a fork or whisk."
-
When doing the Draw and Describe activity, say: "What cute object or animal did you choose to draw? Can you use words to describe its appearance and personality?"
-
When exploring dance books, say: "Read the story about the ballerinas. How do you think they feel when they perform on stage? Let's create a dance routine that shows their emotions!"
