Materials and Prep
- Swimming pool or suitable body of water

- Swimsuit
- Sunscreen
- Waterproof watch or timer

Activities
-
Warm-up exercises: Start by stretching your muscles to prepare for swimming. Reach your arms up high, touch your toes, and twist your body gently from side to side.
-
Water safety rules: Review and discuss important water safety rules with your adult supervisor. Remember to always swim with a buddy, listen to lifeguards or adults in charge, and never run near the pool.
-
Blowing bubbles: Practice blowing bubbles in the water through your mouth and nose. This will help you become comfortable with having your face in the water.
-
Kicking practice: Hold onto the pool edge or use a kickboard for support. Kick your legs up and down in the water, keeping your toes pointed. Try to make big splashes!
-
Arm movements: Stand in the shallow end of the pool and practice moving your arms in a freestyle stroke. Pretend you are swimming through the water and reach forward with one arm at a time.
-
Floatation practice: With the help of your adult supervisor, practice floating on your back. Relax your body and let the water support you. This is an important skill for water safety.
-
Water games: End the lesson with some fun water games like diving for toys or playing Marco Polo. Remember to always follow the water safety rules!
