Objective
By the end of this lesson, you will be able to recognize and read simple words.
Materials and Prep
- Alphabet flashcards
- Blank paper
- Colorful markers or crayons
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn
Activities
- Alphabet Scavenger Hunt: Hide alphabet flashcards around the house and have the student find them. Once found, say the letter and a word that starts with that letter.
- Letter Tracing: Practice tracing letters on the paper using colorful markers or crayons. Encourage the student to say the letter out loud as they trace it.
- Word Building: Use the flashcards to create simple words like "cat" or "dog". Have the student sound out each letter and then say the complete word.
Talking Points
- Letters are like building blocks: "Each letter is like a special block that helps us build words."
- Sound it out: "When we see a letter, we can make a sound to help us figure out what it says."
- Practice makes perfect: "The more we practice reading, the better we will become at it."
- Have fun with reading: "Reading can be so much fun, especially when we learn new words and stories."
- Keep trying: "If we come across a word we don't know, it's okay to keep trying and ask for help."
