By the end of this lesson, you will be able to recognize and read simple words and sentences with confidence.
Materials and Prep
Materials Needed:
- Alphabet flashcards
- A whiteboard and marker
- A book with simple words
Preparation:
- Familiarize yourself with the alphabet flashcards and simple words in the book.
- Set up a comfortable reading area for the lesson.
Activities
1. Alphabet Scavenger Hunt: Hide the alphabet flashcards around the room and ask the student to find and name each letter.
2. Word Building Game: Use the whiteboard to write simple words and ask the student to sound out each letter and blend them together to read the word.
3. Storytime: Read a short story from the book together, encouraging the student to read simple words aloud.
Talking Points
- Letters make sounds that come together to form words. For example, "c-a-t" spells "cat." Remember, each letter has its own sound!
- Practice makes perfect! The more you read, the better you'll become at recognizing words quickly.
- Reading is like solving a puzzle. Each word is like a piece that fits together to create meaning.
- Don't be afraid to ask for help if you get stuck on a word. It's okay to learn and grow as a reader!
