Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will learn basic watercolor painting techniques and create your own beautiful watercolor artwork.

Materials and Prep

Materials needed:

  • Watercolor paint set
  • Watercolor paper
  • Paintbrushes
  • Cup of water
  • Paper towels

Prepare a workspace with a protective cover and have all materials easily accessible.

Activities

  • Color Mixing: Experiment with mixing different colors on a palette to create new colors.
  • Wet-on-Wet Technique: Wet the paper with a brush and then apply paint to see how colors blend beautifully.
  • Resist Technique: Use a white crayon to draw a design on the paper before painting over it to see the design resist the paint.
