Materials and Prep
- Paper
- Pencil or crayons
- A comfortable reading space
- A list of simple words (like cat, dog, sun, etc.)
- A few short sentences (like "The cat is big.")
Before the lesson, ensure the reading space is quiet and comfortable, and review the list of simple words and sentences to prepare for the activities.
Activities
-
Word Hunt:
Hide simple words around the room. Ask the student to find them and read them aloud. This makes reading fun and active!
-
Sentence Building:
Using the words found, help the student create simple sentences. Write them down together and read them out loud.
-
Storytime Drawing:
Ask the student to draw a picture of their favorite word or sentence. Then, they can tell a story about their drawing, practicing their reading skills.
-
Rhyming Time:
Choose a simple word and brainstorm words that rhyme with it. Write them down and read them together. This helps with phonics!
