Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to recognize, count, and write the numbers from 1 to 20, while also developing a fun and engaging relationship with numbers through interactive activities.
Materials and Prep
- Paper
- Pencil or crayon
- Space to move around
- Optional: a timer (can use a phone or watch)
Before starting the lesson, ensure the student is in a comfortable space where they can sit and move around freely. Prepare to have fun and be enthusiastic about learning numbers!
Activities
- Number Hop: Create a hopscotch-like game on the floor with numbers 1-20. The student will hop to each number while saying it out loud.
- Number Drawing: Ask the student to draw their favorite things in groups corresponding to numbers (e.g., 3 apples, 5 stars).
- Number Song: Sing a simple song that includes numbers, such as "Five Little Ducks" or create your own number song!
- Number Line Race: Draw a number line from 1 to 20 on the paper. Have the student race to place a small object (like a toy) on the correct number you call out.
This activity helps with number recognition and physical movement. Encourage the student to jump higher for numbers 11-20 to make it more fun!
This activity combines creativity with counting. After drawing, have the student count the items they drew and say the numbers out loud.
This game reinforces number placement and recognition in a fun, active way. Cheer them on as they race!
