Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will improve their reading skills by engaging with a fun story, practicing phonics, and enhancing their comprehension through interactive activities. The student will also gain confidence in their reading abilities and learn strategies to support their learning style.
Materials and Prep
- A storybook or a short story appropriate for the student's reading level.
- Paper and colored pencils or markers for drawing.
- Index cards for vocabulary words.
- A quiet space for reading and activities.
Before the lesson, familiarize yourself with the chosen story to guide the discussion and activities. Make sure to choose a book that is engaging and has illustrations to support comprehension.
Activities
- Story Time: Read the chosen story together. Encourage the student to read aloud, helping with any challenging words. Use a finger or pointer to follow along with the text.
- Illustrate the Story: After reading, ask the student to draw their favorite scene from the story. This will help them visualize and remember what they read.
- Vocabulary Cards: Identify 5-10 new or interesting words from the story. Write each word on an index card and have the student illustrate or define them. This will help reinforce their understanding of the words.
- Character Interviews: Have the student choose a character from the story and pretend to interview them. Ask questions like, "What was your favorite part of the story?" or "How did you feel when...?"
