Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to have a basic conversation in Spanish and understand common phrases in the language.
Materials and Prep
- Pen and paper
- Access to online Spanish-English dictionary
No prior knowledge of Spanish is required.
Activities
-
Start by learning basic greetings in Spanish. Practice saying "Hola" (hello), "Buenos días" (good morning), "Buenas tardes" (good afternoon), and "Buenas noches" (good evening/night). Repeat each phrase several times to get comfortable with the pronunciation.
-
Move on to learning how to introduce yourself. Teach the student how to say "Me llamo [name]" (My name is [name]). Have them practice introducing themselves to you and vice versa.
-
Next, introduce some useful phrases for everyday situations. Teach them how to say "¿Cómo estás?" (How are you?), "Gracias" (Thank you), and "Por favor" (Please). Encourage them to use these phrases in context during the lesson.
-
Practice having a simple conversation in Spanish. Use the phrases learned so far to ask and answer questions such as "¿Cómo te llamas?" (What's your name?), "¿Cómo estás?" (How are you?), and "¿De dónde eres?" (Where are you from?). Provide guidance and corrections as needed.
-
End the lesson by assigning a short writing task. Ask the student to write a paragraph introducing themselves in Spanish, using the phrases and vocabulary learned in the lesson.
