Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to introduce themselves in Spanish, recognize basic greetings, and understand simple vocabulary related to colors and animals.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper and colored pencils or crayons
  • A list of common Spanish greetings and phrases
  • A simple chart of colors and animals in Spanish
  • Space to move around for activities

Before the lesson, prepare a chart with basic Spanish greetings, colors, and animals. Ensure the student is comfortable with basic English phrases to compare with their Spanish counterparts.

Activities

  • Greeting Game:

Practice common greetings in Spanish. The student will take turns greeting you and responding, using phrases like "Hola" (Hello) and "¿Cómo estás?" (How are you?). This will help them learn to communicate with others.

  • Color Hunt:

Go on a color hunt around the house or yard. The student will find objects of different colors and say the color in Spanish, such as "rojo" (red) or "azul" (blue). This reinforces vocabulary through real-world examples.

  • Animal Charades:

Play charades using animals. The student will act out different animals while you guess the animal in Spanish. For example, they can act like a "perro" (dog) or "gato" (cat). This makes learning fun and interactive!

  • Drawing and Labeling:

Let the student draw their favorite animal and color it. Then, they will label the drawing in Spanish. For example, if they draw a cat, they will write "gato" next to it. This combines creativity with language learning.

  • "Me llamo [Your Name]." (My name is [Your Name].) - This is how you introduce yourself.
  • "¿Qué color es esto?" (What color is this?) - Use this phrase during the color hunt.
  • "El perro es [color]." (The dog is [color].) - Use this to describe animals you find.
  • "¡Vamos a jugar!" (Let's play!) - Use this phrase to invite someone to join in on activities.
  • "Yo tengo un [animal]." (I have a [animal].) - This helps express ownership of pets or favorite animals.
  • "¿Qué animal es este?" (What animal is this?) - Use this when playing charades.
  • "¡Excelente trabajo!" (Excellent job!) - Use this to encourage the student throughout the lesson.
