Objective
By the end of this lesson, Fynn will be able to recognize numbers up to fifty and perform simple addition and subtraction using those numbers. He will engage in fun activities that make learning enjoyable and interactive.
Materials and Prep
- Paper and crayons or markers
- Counting objects (like toys, blocks, or snacks)
- Space to move around for physical activities
- Optional: A whiteboard or chalkboard for visual aids
Before the lesson, it’s good to have a basic understanding of numbers 1-50 and simple addition and subtraction concepts. Prepare a fun atmosphere to keep Fynn engaged!
Activities
-
Number Hunt: Hide numbers (written on paper) around the room. Have Fynn find them and say each number out loud. This will help him recognize numbers visually and verbally.
-
Counting with Snacks: Use small snacks (like cereal or fruit pieces) to practice counting. Ask Fynn to count out a specific number, then add or take away some to practice simple addition and subtraction.
-
Jumping Numbers: Write numbers on the floor with tape or paper. Call out a number and have Fynn jump to that number. Mix it up by asking him to jump to a number that is 2 more or 1 less than the number you call out.
-
Draw and Add: Have Fynn draw a certain number of objects (like stars or flowers) on paper. Then, ask him to draw more or take some away, and count how many are left or how many there are now.
Talking Points
- "Can you find the number 5? What does it look like?"
- "If we have 3 apples and I give you 2 more, how many do we have now?"
- "Let's jump to the number 10! Can you jump to the number that is 1 less than 10?"
- "Look at your drawing! If you drew 4 stars and then drew 2 more, how many stars do you have now?"
