Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will understand the concept of earning an allowance through completing tasks on a checklist. They will learn about responsibility, the value of work, and how to manage their earnings wisely.

Materials and Prep

  • Paper and pencil for creating the checklist
  • Colored markers or crayons for decorating the checklist
  • A small box or envelope for collecting allowance
  • Timer or stopwatch (optional, for timed activities)

Before the lesson, prepare a simple checklist template on paper that the student can fill out. Think of tasks that are age-appropriate and meaningful for the student to complete.

Activities

  • Create Your Checklist:

The student will create a personalized checklist of tasks they can do to earn their allowance. They can include chores, homework, or any other responsibilities they want to take on.

  • Decorate Your Checklist:

Using colored markers or crayons, the student will decorate their checklist. This will make it visually appealing and encourage them to use it regularly.

  • Set a Timer Challenge:

The student can pick a few tasks from their checklist and set a timer to see how quickly they can complete them. This adds an element of fun and urgency to the chores!

  • Allowance Discussion:

After completing tasks, the student will sit down to discuss how much allowance they should earn based on the tasks completed. This will help them understand the relationship between effort and reward.
