Objective

By the end of this lesson, Billie will have a deeper understanding of the themes and rhetorical devices used in the novel "A Single Shard." Billie will also improve her sentence structure, paragraph organization, and spelling through engaging activities that encourage creative expression and critical thinking.

Activities

  1. Character Metaphor Creation:

    Billie will choose a character from "A Single Shard" and create a metaphor that describes their personality or journey. She will write a short paragraph explaining her metaphor and how it relates to the character's development throughout the story.

  2. Irony Hunt:

    Billie will go through selected chapters of the book to find examples of irony. She will make a list of these examples and write a brief explanation of how they contribute to the story's themes and character development.

  3. Parody Poem:

    Billie will write a short parody poem about a scene from the novel. This will help her practice using humor and creativity while reinforcing her understanding of the plot and characters.

  4. Group Discussion:

    Billie will participate in a discussion about the rhetorical devices used in the book. She will share her findings from the irony hunt and discuss how these devices affect the reader's understanding of the story.
