Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to explore different genres of books on their Kindle, understand how to navigate the device, and choose a book that interests them for reading.
Materials and Prep
- Kindle device
- Headphones (optional for audiobooks)
- Notebook and pencil for notes
- Access to the Kindle store or library
Before the lesson, make sure the Kindle is charged and connected to Wi-Fi. Familiarize yourself with the Kindle interface to help guide the student.
Activities
-
Kindle Exploration:
Let the student explore the Kindle interface. Show them how to turn it on, swipe through the home screen, and find different sections like "Books," "Audible," and "Library." Encourage them to ask questions about what they see.
-
Genre Hunt:
Introduce the student to different book genres (like adventure, fantasy, and mystery). Ask them to find one book from each genre and share what they think the book is about based on its cover and title.
-
Read Aloud:
Choose a short story or a sample chapter from a book on the Kindle and read it aloud together. Discuss what they liked about the story and what they think might happen next.
-
Create a Reading List:
Have the student pick their favorite book from the exploration and create a reading list in their notebook. They can write the title and a few sentences about why they chose it.
