Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to practice reading skills and improve reading fluency, specifically targeting dyslexia.
Materials and Prep
- Reading materials appropriate for second grade level
- Whiteboard or paper and markers
- Timer or stopwatch
Activities
-
Word Building: Write a few simple words on the whiteboard or paper. Ask the student to sound out each letter and blend them together to form the word. Encourage them to use their finger to trace the letters as they say the sounds. Repeat this activity with different words.
-
Reading Race: Set a timer for one minute. Choose a short passage or a few sentences from a book. Ask the student to read as many words as they can within the given time. Keep track of the number of words read correctly. Repeat this activity a few times, gradually increasing the time limit.
-
Word Search: Create a simple word search puzzle with words the student has been practicing. Give them a copy of the puzzle and ask them to find and circle the words. This activity helps improve visual tracking and word recognition.
