Objective
By the end of this lesson, David will be able to recognize and count numbers from 1 to 10 through engaging activities that encourage learning and fun.
Materials and Prep
- David's fingers (for counting)
- David's toys (to use for counting)
- David's voice (for singing and counting aloud)
- A clear space for activities
Before the lesson, make sure David is in a comfortable space where he can freely move around and play with his toys.
Activities
-
Counting with Fingers:
Start by showing David how to count using his fingers. Hold up one finger and say, "This is 1!" Then add another finger for 2, and continue until he reaches 10. Encourage him to count along with you!
-
Toy Count:
Gather a few of David's toys. Ask him to pick up 1 toy, then 2 toys, and so on up to 10. As he counts each toy, say the numbers together. This helps him visualize the numbers with physical objects!
-
Number Song:
Sing a fun counting song, like "Ten in the Bed." As you sing, encourage David to join in and count along. Songs make learning numbers fun and memorable!
-
Hop and Count:
Have David hop in place while counting. For example, "Hop 1 time! Hop 2 times!" This combines movement with counting, making it exciting!
Talking Points
- "Let's count together! How many fingers do I have up?"
- "Can you find 3 toys? Let's count them together: 1, 2, 3!"
- "Do you want to sing a counting song? Let's sing about 10 little ducks!"
- "How many hops can you do? Let's count your hops: 1, 2, 3!"
