Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to identify, count, and recite numbers from 1 to 10. They will engage in fun activities that reinforce their understanding of these numbers through play and interaction.
Materials and Prep
- No specific materials are needed for this lesson.
- Prepare to use your fingers, voice, and imagination for counting and number games.
- Make sure the learning environment is comfortable and free from distractions.
Activities
-
Finger Counting:
Start by using your fingers to count from 1 to 10. Hold up one finger for 1, two fingers for 2, and so on. Encourage the student to do the same and shout out the numbers together!
-
Number Song:
Sing a simple number song, like "Ten in the Bed." As you sing, encourage the student to count along with you. This will help them learn the sequence of numbers in a fun and engaging way.
-
Number Hop:
Use the floor as a number line. Call out a number, and have the student hop to that number on the floor. For example, if you say "3," they should hop to the imaginary spot where "3" is located.
-
Counting Objects:
Use everyday objects around the house (like toys or snacks) to count out loud. For instance, ask the student to count 5 blocks or 3 apples, and then count them together.
Talking Points
- "Can you show me 1 finger? Great! That means 1!"
- "Let's sing our number song together! Can you count with me?"
- "Hop to the number I say! Ready? Hop to 2!"
- "How many blocks do we have? Let's count them together!"
