Objective
By the end of this lesson, the toddler will be able to recognize and identify different objects and characters in a story, and demonstrate basic reading comprehension skills.
Materials and Prep
- Several age-appropriate storybooks
- Index cards or small pieces of paper
- Markers or crayons

Activities
- Read Aloud: Choose a storybook and read it aloud to the toddler. Pause occasionally to ask questions about the characters or objects in the story.
- Object Identification: Write the names of different objects or characters from the story on index cards or small pieces of paper. Show the cards to the toddler one at a time and ask them to identify the corresponding object or character in the story.
- Retelling the Story: Encourage the toddler to retell the story using their own words. Ask them to describe the main events and characters in the story.
- Story Sequencing: Cut out pictures or draw simple illustrations representing key events from the story. Mix up the pictures and ask the toddler to arrange them in the correct order to retell the story.

- "In this story, there are different characters and things. Can you tell me who or what they are?"
- "What happened in the story? Can you tell me the main events?"
- "Let's use these pictures to put the story in order. What happened first? What happened next?"
- "Can you retell the story using your own words? Tell me what you remember."
