Objective

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to improve their spelling skills and apply them to reading anime.

Materials and Prep

• Paper and pen/pencil
• Access to anime books or online resources
• Dictionary (optional)

Activities

1. Spelling Bee Anime Characters:

   Choose a few anime characters from the books or online resources. Write their names on separate pieces of paper and place them in a bowl. Take turns drawing a name from the bowl and spelling it out loud. If the student spells it correctly, they earn a point. If not, the teacher gets a point. The student with the most points at the end wins.

2. Create a Spelling Story:

   Have the student choose their favorite anime character or scene. Ask them to write a short story or description incorporating as many spelling words as possible. Encourage them to be creative and make it engaging. After writing, they can read their story aloud to the teacher or family members.

3. Spelling Scramble:

   Write down a list of spelling words related to anime on separate index cards or pieces of paper. Mix them up and place them face down on a table. The student will take turns flipping a card, reading the scrambled word, and rearranging the letters to form the correct spelling. If they spell it correctly, they keep the card. The player with the most cards at the end wins.
