Objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to identify and understand different types of characters in a story.

Materials and Prep

  • A children's storybook
  • A notebook or paper
  • A pencil or pen

Activities

  1. Read a story together: Choose a children's storybook that interests you. Read it aloud together, stopping after each character is introduced.

  2. Identify the characters: After reading the story, discuss the characters with your child. Ask them to name the main characters and any supporting characters they remember.

  3. Describe the characters: Have your child describe each character using adjectives. For example, ask them to describe the main character's appearance, personality, or actions. Write down their descriptions on a piece of paper.

  4. Act out the characters: Encourage your child to act out the different characters from the story. They can use different voices, expressions, and gestures to bring the characters to life.

  5. Make character cards: Using the descriptions written earlier, help your child create character cards. They can draw or cut out pictures of the characters and write the corresponding descriptions on the cards.

  6. Retell the story: Using the character cards, have your child retell the story in their own words. They can use the cards as visual aids to remember the sequence of events and the roles of each character.
