Objective

By the end of this lesson, the Seventh grade-level homeschool student will be able to introduce themselves in French, count from 1 to 10, and greet others in French.

Materials and Prep

  • French language textbook or online resources
  • Paper and pen/pencil
  • Access to a French pronunciation guide or audio recordings

Activities

  1. Activity 1: Introduction to French

    Start by discussing the importance of learning a foreign language and the benefits of learning French specifically. Show examples of French words and phrases commonly used in English.

    Ask the student to write down five French words they already know or have heard before. Discuss their meanings and pronunciation.

  2. Activity 2: Basic French Greetings

    Introduce common French greetings such as "Bonjour" (Hello), "Comment ça va?" (How are you?), and "Au revoir" (Goodbye).

    Practice pronunciation together and encourage the student to greet you and respond using these phrases.

  3. Activity 3: Introducing Yourself

    Teach the student how to introduce themselves in French. Provide examples and practice saying phrases like "Je m'appelle [name]" (My name is [name]).

    Have the student introduce themselves to you and ask them questions in French to practice their responses.

  4. Activity 4: Counting in French

    Introduce numbers from 1 to 10 in French. Practice pronunciation and encourage the student to count along with you.

    Play a game where you say a number in English and the student has to respond with the corresponding number in French.
