Objective
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to improve their spelling skills through engaging activities centered around their interest in Spongebob.
Materials and Prep
- Paper and pen/pencil
- Access to a computer or tablet with internet
- Printouts of Spongebob-related spelling worksheets (optional)
Activities
-
Watch an episode of Spongebob together.
While watching, ask the student to pay attention to the different words and phrases used by the characters.
After the episode, discuss any unfamiliar words or phrases and their meanings.
-
Create a Spongebob-themed spelling word search.
Using a blank sheet of paper, have the student write down a list of 10-15 Spongebob-related words.
Then, have them create a word search puzzle using those words.
Once complete, they can exchange their word search with a family member or friend to solve.
-
Play a spelling bee game.
Have the student write down a list of challenging words related to Spongebob.
Take turns being the "spelling bee host" and "speller". The host will give the speller a word to spell, and the speller will attempt to spell it correctly.
If the speller gets it right, they earn a point. If they get it wrong, the host can provide the correct spelling and move on to the next word.
Continue playing until all the words have been spelled or for a set amount of rounds.
