Materials and Prep

No specific prior knowledge is required for this lesson, just come with an open mind and a willingness to explore new ideas!

Activities

  • Genre Exploration: Choose a book from a genre you haven't read before. Read the first few chapters and write down your initial thoughts and impressions in your journal. Reflect on how this genre differs from the ones you are familiar with.
  • Reading Comprehension Challenge: Select a passage from a book you are currently reading. Read it carefully and then write a brief summary of what you understood from the passage. Be sure to include any questions or thoughts that arise while reading.
  • Book Comparison: Choose two books from different genres that you have read recently. Create a Venn diagram or a table to compare and contrast the themes, characters, and writing styles of the two books. Write a short paragraph discussing your findings.
