Activities
Read the first chapter of the novel. Take notes on the main characters, setting, and any important events or details.
After reading, create a character chart. Write down the names of the main characters and their traits, motivations, and relationships with other characters.
Choose a scene from the chapter and rewrite it from a different character's perspective. How would their thoughts and feelings differ from the original narrator?
Write a short summary of the chapter, highlighting the main events and themes.
Discuss your thoughts and impressions of the chapter with a family member or friend. What stood out to you the most? Were there any surprises or unanswered questions?

Character Development: Characters are the heart of a story. How do the characters in the novel you're reading change and grow over time? Can you relate to any of the characters or their experiences?
Themes: Themes are the underlying messages or ideas in a story. What themes do you think the author is exploring in this novel? How do these themes relate to your own life or experiences?
Plot and Conflict: The plot is the sequence of events that make up a story. What major conflicts or challenges do the characters face in the novel? How do these conflicts drive the story forward?
Writing Style: Pay attention to the author's writing style. Is it descriptive, poetic, or straightforward? How does the writing style contribute to your understanding and enjoyment of the story?
Predictions: Based on what you've read so far, what do you think will happen next in the story? Make predictions and discuss them with others to see if they have similar or different ideas.
