Materials and Prep
- A storybook or any reading material of your choice
- A notebook and pencil
- A quiet and comfortable reading area
Activities
Read a story aloud together and discuss the main characters, setting, and plot. Pay attention to any new words or phrases you come across.
After reading the story, ask the student to summarize what happened in their own words. Encourage them to use details from the story to support their summary.
Choose a few sentences from the story and ask the student to identify the main idea or theme. Discuss why they think the author included those particular sentences.
Have the student create a drawing or illustration based on their favorite part of the story. Ask them to explain why they chose that specific scene.
Play a game of "Who Am I?" where the student describes a character from the story without revealing their name. The other person has to guess the character based on the description.
