Objective
By the end of this lesson, Anleigh will be able to recognize and write the letters A through Z, understand their sounds, and identify words that start with each letter.
Materials and Prep
- Paper
- Pencil or crayons
- Space for movement
Before the lesson, ensure that Anleigh understands the basic concept of letters and sounds. Prepare a fun and engaging environment to make learning enjoyable.
Activities
-
Letter Dance Party:
Play some fun music and have Anleigh dance around. When the music stops, call out a letter, and she has to freeze in a pose that starts with that letter, like "A for Alligator!"
-
Letter Art:
Have Anleigh draw her favorite animals or objects that start with each letter. For example, "B for Bear" or "C for Cat." Encourage her to color them in!
-
Letter Sound Hunt:
Go on a mini scavenger hunt around the house to find objects that start with different letters. For example, find a "T for Toy" or "S for Spoon."
-
Letter Story Time:
Read a short story together and pause to point out letters and words that start with those letters. Ask Anleigh to repeat the words after you.
Talking Points
- "Look, Anleigh! Each letter has its own special sound. Can you say 'A' for 'Apple'?"
- "Let's make our letter dance! Can you show me a pose for 'B'?"
- "Great job! Now, can you think of something that starts with 'C'?"
- "When we find things around the house, we can learn even more letters! What do you see that starts with 'D'?"
- "Every letter is like a friend waiting to help us make words! What word can we make with 'E'?"
- "You are doing amazing! Remember, letters are everywhere! Can you find an 'F' in this story?"
